Book Review - TWICE A BRIDE

Twice A Bride is a novel written by Mona Hodgson and is the 4th book in The Sinclair Sisters of Cripple Creek series. The setting is in the late 1800s and Willow Peterson is a young widow who decides to pursue her dreams to become an artist. Willow's brother and his wife live in Cripple Creek and she decides to settle down there. Willow becomes employed by Trenton Van Der Veer to be a portrait painter and they start to develop feelings for each other. However Trenton's ex-girlfriend (Susanna) comes to Cripple Creek to try to win Trenton back. Who will he end up with? My thoughts: I enjoyed reading this book. Although I didn't read the previous three books in the series, the plot of this book stands alone. I would recommend this book to others.

Book Review - BOLD AS LOVE

Bold as Love - What can happen when we see people the way God does is written by Bob Roberts, Jr. From the back cover: In Bold as Love, Pastor Bob Roberts shows you what it looks like to live out your faith daily in the global public square among people of other faiths - Jews, Muslims, atheists, Hindus, Buddhists.

This book starts off with Pastor Roberts stating how he had a grand plan of getting to know Jews and Muslims with the hope of bringing the congregation together. His relationships with them eventually turned into friendships. This in turn deepened his love of Christ and others. Each chapter (eight total) takes you on his journey and how he realizes that Jesus is everywhere we take him.

This book was an interesting read to me especially because it's true. I would recommend it to others especially those who have an interest in getting to know and have friendships with people of other faiths and not just wanting to convert them.

Book Review - STILL LOLO

The book Still Lolo:  A Spinning Propeller, a Horrific Accident, and a Family's Journey of Hopeis written by Lauren Scruggs and the Scruggs Family with Marcus Brotherton.  I think most of us remember hearing about Lauren Scruggs who walked into a plane propeller and lost sight in one eye as a result.  At the time that I heard about the accident in the news, I wondered how the accident could have happened.  This book explains that and also how Lauren and her family got through the healing and recovery process.

Not only is Lauren's background interesting, but her parents' story is very interesting also.  Her parents had married, had two children (Lauren and her sister) and then divorced.  Both parents eventually put Christ in their lives, then remarried several years after the divorce.  The family turned to their faith after Lauren's accident to get them through the accident and recovery.

I really enjoyed reading this book and would recommend it to anyone.  The book is very inspiring and also reinforces that God is not concerned about outward appearances, but about what is in our heart.
